23. Plastic pyrolysis plant – laboratory scale

Description:The plastic pyrolysis plant consists of an agitated reactor equipped with an anchor-type agitator and entirely constructed from AISI 316L stainless steel. The energy required for the reaction is provided by electric resistances with a power output of 1.7 kW. The reactor is fed with molten material via an extruder, which is also heated by electric resistances. The gasified products can vary depending on the operating conditions, ranging from liquid hydrocarbons (pyrolytic oils) to solids (pyrolytic waxes) at room temperature, with varying gas content. These products are condensed in double-jacketed heat exchangers equipped with internal baffles to enhance heat transfer. The plant operates under vacuum conditions, generated by a Venturi-type ejector through which a liquid hydrocarbon circulates, achieving pressure levels around 50 mbar, depending on the temperature of the circulating fluid.
